Board of Directors
Chris Leland became involved with the HFO in 1999 as a camp counselor for Camp Tapawingo, and became President in January 2007. He is passionate about running and the outdoors, and looks forward to strengthening community development and education in his new role as President. Chris has been involved with planning and coordinating our summer camp and has attended NACHHO (a camp training program) for several years. Chris has also worked at Doernbecher Children's Hospital since 2000, and is taking pre-med classes at Portland State University.
Alex has severe hemophilia and has been attending HFO camp since 1994. He is a student at the University of Portland and intends to apply to medical school. In 2003 he and another camper were awarded the Mike Charles Outstanding Camper Award. Since then being part of the hemophilia community has meant more to him than ever, as he became Vice President of the HFO board in January 2007, is a council member for the NHF youth, and volunteers as a junior counselor at camp. In his spare time he loves to stay active by playing sports, reading and spending time with his friends and family.
Dave has served as HFO Treasurer since 1996. As Treasurer he is responsible for providing the board with timely financial reports, complying with government reporting requirements and developing the annual budget. Dave is a CPA in private practice in Southwest Portland. In addition to his HFO duties, he and his wife Marci are active volunteers at the Oregon Zoo.

Monica first got involved with the HFO shortly after her son Mitch was diagnosed with hemophilia in 1994. After attending a couple of women’s support group meetings, she became involved helping organize the HFO picnic. She then branched out to help with the Camp Committee, and she and her husband Tom are now the Summer Camp Directors. Monica has been Board Secretary since 1998. Her involvement with the HFO stems from a desire to be more directly involved and to give something back to the bleeding disorders community. Besides their son Mitch, she and Tom have a daughter Alli. Monica also manages the HFO office, and in her spare time enjoys spending time with her family.
